The Saudi candidate to head the WTO presents its reform plan on the eve of a crucial stage
On the eve of a first selection among eight candidates on September 17 for the appointment of a new Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Saudi candidate Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri presents his reform program to bring the WTO out of the crisis. The press videoconference during which members and journalists can ask their questions by joining us here (pw 259581), can also be followed by the general public on our website here above.
The early resignation of Roberto Azevedo at the head of the WTO on August 31 of this year has precipitated the process of appointing a successor as the Geneva-based organization is plagued by deadlocks against a backdrop of growing trade tensions, particularly between China and the United States.
With more than 30 years of experience in international finance and economics, Mr. Al-Tuwaijiri has worked in the public sector as Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning. He has also been active in the private sector, including serving as Vice President and Managing Director of HSBC Middle East and North Africa.
