Exceptional Meeting with Stella Moris-Assange

A revision request against the extradition warrant to the United States, a meeting with Pope Francis, and a letter from Swiss parliamentarians to Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis: Stella Moris-Assange will be at the Geneva Press Club on Monday, July 10th, at 2 PM to raise awareness among the media and human rights advocates about the pressing urgency surrounding this final phase of a more than three-year-long legal odyssey in British courts.

The threat of Julian Assange’s extradition to the United States is more real than ever. On June 6, 2023, the UK High Court dismissed the appeal against the extradition warrant issued in June 2022 by Priti Patel, the former British Minister of Justice. His legal team has lodged a request for a revision with the Supreme Court and is expecting a decision imminently. If the request is granted, the case may proceed to a public hearing before two new judges of the High Court. Otherwise, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) may be the final recourse to prevent Assange from facing a life sentence in the United States. In 2010, Assange published classified documents in public interest exposing war crimes and human rights violations committed by the US, which led to him being charged with espionage under the US Espionage Act.

Stella Moris-Assange, Julian Assange’s wife and his unwavering advocate for several years, will be at the Geneva Press Club on Monday, July 10th, at 2 PM for a remarkable meeting. Two years after the launch of the petition for Julian Assange’s release by the Geneva Press Club in 2021, which now boasts 14,000 signatures, Stella Moris-Assange will share her experience of her recent audience with Pope Francis on June 30th. She will commend the initiative taken by Swiss parliamentarians and Geneva representatives, who will send a letter on July 10th to Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis (Department of Foreign Affairs), urging him to intervene on behalf of Julian Assange. At a time when the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council is underway, she will highlight the unwavering international support for Julian Assange based on the unconditional rights to freedom of expression and information. Finally, she will denounce his unjust and inhumane prison conditions, which have had a severe impact on Julian Assange’s health.
