The political landscape of Bangladesh has been dramatically altered following the events of August 5th. Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been forced to flee the country, while Islamist and jihadist student protesters, under the leadership of Yunus, have established an alternative government. This drastic shift has led to the release of Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani, the chief of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), along with dozens of imprisoned Islamists and jihadists.

As the perpetrators of these gruesome crimes enjoy impunity, Bangladesh’s secular forces including writers, journalists, freedom fighters, political activists, and countless innocent individuals now find themselves behind bars. The nation’s descent into chaos has opened the door to Islamic extremism, with militant groups gaining unprecedented strength in the wake of a tumultuous governmental transition.

This crisis presents significant security concerns not only for Bangladesh but for the entire South Asian region. The rise of extremism and the erosion of democratic values threaten to destabilize neighboring countries and fuel a broader wave of radicalization.

Join us at this crucial conference to discuss the unfolding situation, its global implications, and the urgent need for international intervention to restore peace, stability, and democratic governance in Bangladesh.
