A delegation from APES was able to visit this Balkan country, a key passageway for migrants to Europe, thanks to the freeway that runs from Tessaloniki in Greece directly to Finland. The dozen or so journalists met North Macedonia’s top leaders, including the President of the Republic Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, several ministers, government opponents and representatives of the various communities that make up the civilian population of this small country. Albanians form the largest minority in North Macedonia. They account for 30% of the country’s population, behind the Macedonians (54%).
The journalists from the APES delegation gathered first-hand accounts, at a time when the nations of Central and Southern Europe are questioning Europe as much as themselves. A highly topical subject and analysis at a time when the new political, economic and military balance of power is being redrawn against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the rise of populism on all sides.
