British-Palestinian surgeon Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitta is among the first, and remains one of the few, to have witnessed the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza from within shortly after the Israeli army’s offensive began in October 2023.

A specialist in plastic and reconstructive surgery, he began his work as a surgeon specializing in war wounds in the 1990s, operating not only in Gaza but also in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. In 2015, he co-founded and directed the Conflict Medicine Program at the American University of Beirut. In January 2024, he testified before the International Criminal Court in The Hague about the conflict in Gaza and the attacks on Palestinian hospitals. Author of several books, including “Reconstructing the War Injured Patient”, he was appointed rector of the University of Glasgow in April 2024. The conference will provide an opportunity for Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitta to testify about his experience in Gaza, analyze the situation, and discuss the potential evolution of the conflict.

Ghassan Abu Sitta will be available for interviews following his presentation.
