Ahead of the review of the United Arab Emirates by the UN Committee Against Torture, MENA Rights Group aims to hold a press conference to shed light on the systematic practice of Torture in the UAE. The purpose of the event will be to share key findings from MENA Rights Group and EDAC’s report to the Committee against Torture.
Several victims of torture in the UAE will speak out, including Dr. Matthew Hedges, Ali Ahmed and Naji Hamdan (Association of Victims of Torutre in the UAE), all of whom have been subjected to torture by the Emirati authorities. They are seeking justice and accountability for the violations they suffered.
Janan Al Marzooqi, the daughter of Abdulsalam Al Marzooqi, who has also been subjected to torture, will then provide a pre-recorded video testimony, followed by a pre-recorded video intervention from Hamad al-Shamsi (Emirates Detainees Advocacy Centre). The discussion will then be opened to guests and journalists for questions to the speakers.
