One year ago, on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a bloody attack against Israel. Since then, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has once again raged with unprecedented violence, placing the world’s media in a particularly complex position. A macabre record: more than a hundred journalists have been killed in Gaza in less than a year.
How to cover the current conflict in Gaza? How to give the point of view of both sides? How can we avoid propaganda and information manipulation? What are the media’s resources (desk, special envoy, local correspondent)? Do journalists have sufficient autonomy from their management? What is the relationship between the media and the Swiss authorities? The “war of words”: how do the media position themselves in the face of Israel’s accusation of genocide? Faced with the accusation that Hamas is a terrorist group?
SSR-Genève (https://ssrsr.ch/ssr-cantonales/ssr-geneve/ ) is organizing a debate on these sensitive issues, which, according to Reporters Without Borders, have already claimed the lives of over 100 journalists in Gaza.
Screening:
Excerpt from the magazine Temps Présent “Israël-Hamas, la justice et les crimes de guerre” (broadcast April 25, 2024) and commentary by its director Mauro Losa.
