« Sheikh Ali Salman is Bahrain’s foremost opposition leader as Secretary General of Al Wefaq. On December 29th 2014, he was arrested and he has remained in prison since then. Salman will continue to be in detention at least until his next hearing date of 25th March, and likely beyond. He faces malicious and politically motivated charges of inciting to forcibly change the regime in Bahrain. Salman has continuously called for only peaceful protest in Bahrain and rejected all forms of violence and force. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for his immediate release, along with 5 Special Experts and countless NGO’s and individuals. For Bahrain to begin a process towards reform and stability leaders such as Salman must be released immediately. »
