Created in 2009, the BRICS geopolitical group aims to strengthen their role in the economic and financial spheres, and in the reform of international institutions. The BRICS comprise ten countries of the “Global South”: Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia. Since January 2025, nine other countries have been accepted as partner states: Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan, with others on the waiting list. In a tense and turbulent global context, what role can the BRICS play on the international stage? Experts will discuss this at the Geneva Press Club: Vincent Chetail, Professor at IHEID-The Graduate Institute; Brij Khindaria, Indian journalist accredited to the UN, and Jamil Chade, Brazilian journalist accredited to the UN (Zoom from New York).
