ONE YEAR OF COVID-19. What is the impact on Geneva-based NGOs?

COVID-19 and measures taken in response to the pandemic continue to have an impact on all aspects of life locally, nationally and globally – International Geneva is no exception. Non-Governmental Organisations represent a key constituent of the International Geneva ecosystem, which is dependent on all its components functioning and interacting. One year on, what has been the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Geneva-based NGOs?

Here are some of the questions this debate will seek to address:

  • How did Geneva-based NGOs adapt their work and operations to the constraints imposed by the crisis?
  • What are the consequences of remote participation in the meetings and conferences organised by International Organizations for Geneva-based NGOs?
  • What impact did a year of pandemic have on NGOs’ finances, and how did the donors react?
  • Were the assistance schemes put in place by the Swiss authorities helpful to NGOs?
  • With the path out of the pandemic still unclear, what are the NGOs’ perspectives for the future, and what does that mean for International Geneva as a whole?

This debate will also be the opportunity to present a survey about NGOs conducted by the International Geneva Welcome Center (CAGI) in the first quarter of 2021. The study includes 51 questions to the attention of NGOs based in Geneva. The survey focused on the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis on NGOs and takes place one year after a first attempt to evaluate the early impact of the pandemic.
