On the eve of the 21st edition of Media Week in French-speaking Swiss schools, taking place from February 10 to 14, 2025, on the theme of “Informing without Distortion”, the Geneva Press Club and the CFJM in Lausanne take stock of media education in French-speaking Switzerland.

In today’s digital information society, knowing how to use the media is just as important as learning to read, write, and do arithmetic. At a time when Meta and X have announced they are abandoning all forms of fact-checking on their social networks, paving the way for disinformation and opinion manipulation, media education should always be a priority.

Who are the main players in this field in French-speaking Switzerland today? What resources are available, and what results have been achieved? Are the media, schools, policymakers, or parents responsible for media education? How is the relationship between young people and the press evolving? How can media education designed for young people be adapted for an adult audience? Finally, how can we enable citizens—present and future—to actively differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources?

Round table discussion followed by an audience Q&A and a networking aperitif.
