« Litigation at the United Nations Human Rights Committee against Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Guatemala »
The Center for Reproductive Rights, with support from its partners ( Planned Parenthood Global, Mujeres Transformando el Mundo Guatemala (MTM), Observatorio en Salud Sexual y Reproductiva Guatemala (OSAR), Surkuna Ecuador, and Fundación Desafío) are bringing cases against three Latin American countries on behalf of four girls, whose human rights were violated. The girls in question were all under the age of 14 when they became pregnant as a result of sexual violence and were denied access to their reproductive rights and sexual health services. The goals of this litigation campaign are to seek justice for the victims, by holding Nicaragua, Ecuador and Guatemala accountable for their failure to protect and uphold the human rights of victims of sexual violence, while highlighting global standards to guarantee sexual and reproductive rights for women across the world.
