Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

Today, the 18th of November 2021, the Sultanate of Oman celebrates the 51st  National Day. A year already since we were marking the 50th anniversary of the Omani Renaissance, the golden jubilee of an extended process of development and construction throughout the nation and in various sectors of life, one that was also the first National Day after the passing away of the founding Sultan, the builder of the modern Omani renaissance, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, May God rest his soul, and the first National Day celebration under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.

The year 2021 witnesses a number of outstanding landmarks among  which Oman’s 50th  year within the United Nations . 50 years, since 7th  October 1971, of constant honest and highly committed presence within the UN to foster and support peace and stability among the Nations. As a matter of fact, the foundations on which the Omani foreign policy was based since its blessed renaissance are embodied in supporting the values of tolerance, justice, equality, good relations with neighbours, the rule of law, respecting state sovereignty, non-interference in the internal affairs of others and the peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of the provisions and principles of the United Nations Charter and the rules of international law. This  strengthened its position regionally and globally until it became a landmark of security and peace. And the Sultanate of Oman will pursue its long standing internationally recognized wise political tradition of peaceful international relations based on mutual collaboration and respect between the nations for a more sustainable and peaceful world. 2021 was a rich year in terms of special landmarks within the multilateral Diplomacy in Geneva, with at its opening, the presentation of Oman’s third cycle report of the Universal Periodic Review in the Human Rights Council in January and its adoption in June. Oman’s active and continuous support to the multilateral work in terms of International standards was translated as well in a number of  significant steps the most prominent of which was : the ratification of Lisbon Agreement and the Maritime Labour Convention as well as the election of the Sultanate of Oman in the Governing Body of ILO.

And within the related activities with the  World Health Organization, the Sultanate of Oman held a number of distinctions, among which “the Award of Sasakwa and “the Award for Artificial Intelligence use in early breast cancer detection” (delivered by the International Union of Telecommunications) for a promising program initiated in the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman. And within the global covid context, the Sultanate of Oman gained significant recognition and encouragement for its thorough and exemplary national work and international cooperation which amounted to receiving numerous encouragements and congratulations from the World Health Organization. Indeed, even before the covid crisis, the Ministry of Health of the  Sultanate of Oman initiated in collaboration  with the Swiss Federal Office for Public Health and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, the  “Global Health for Peace Initiative” where it highlights and supports the importance of putting forth Health as a pivotal ingredient to foster peace and stability as the wellbeing of the world relies after all on the wellbeing of the individual.
