« Behind the UN liquidity crunch, a multilateral system in crisis? »

The Geneva press club and Geneva Solutions are pleased to invite you to a debate with :

  • Michelle Langrand, journalist, Geneva Solutions
  • Michael Møller, former director general of the United Nations office in Geneva and chairman of the GESDA diplomacy forum
  • Maya Ungar, UN analyst at the International Crisis Group

Moderator: Kasmira Jefford, editor-in-chief, Geneva Solutions

The UN has been facing its worst liquidity crunch in recent history, forcing it to adopt a raft of aggressive cost-saving measures to avoid defaulting on legal payments. Though not the first time the organisation has been in financial straits, the latest crisis points to a multilateral system under increasing pressure as states look out for their national interests at the expense of their commitments to the international system.

At this event, Geneva Solutions, with its guest speakers, will discuss its latest reporting on the UN’s money woes, its stress on specific branches of the organisation such as its human rights operations in Geneva, and the wider implications for the multilateral system.
