The British government united the separate nations of the island into one country, Sri Lanka, for the ease of their supervision and control and Sri Lanka declared independence when the British left the island in 1948. Since then, under the rule of Sinhala Buddhists, the Sri Lankan army has occupied our homeland, and the Eelam Tamils have been facing systematized genocide for more than seven decades. Consequently, Eelam Tamil fought non-violently through peaceful protests politically, and later, they were prompted to fight by armed struggle. In 2009, the Sri Lankan government, with the help of international assistance, executed a massive genocide that led to armed silence. Following that,  for 14 years, the Eelam Tamil diaspora held a rally in front of the United Nations twice a year and organized bicycle marathons from Britain to Geneva 27 times. To now, we take all these efforts aiming to request support for justice for the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka and emphasize the Tamil Eelam as the only solution for Tamils. In continuity, this year, we are trying to demonstrate the demands of Eelam Tamils to the world again via the press conference in Geneva.
