The recent attempts by U.S. President Trump to seize Greenland have prompted us to turn our gaze northward. Yet the Northwest Passage, commercial and military access via the Bering Strait, and the protection of the environment and Indigenous populations in the Arctic have long been at the heart of geopolitics, science, trade, and security issues. Switzerland is involved as an observer in the Arctic Council, as well as Geneva as the host city of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy.
