An urgent press conference will be held in Geneva to address two major international concerns regarding recent developments in Bangladesh.
The first part of the conference will focus on the decision of the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal to issue a death sentence against the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. This judgment was delivered without adherence to recognized legal standards, without due process, and without the protection of fundamental rights. These irregularities, combined with the constitutionally disputed status of the current Yunus administration, have raised serious questions about legality, legitimacy, and the state of governance in Bangladesh. The situation is considered to pose significant risks to justice, sovereignty, and the rule of law.
The second part of the conference will address the findings of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) concerning the political unrest in Bangladesh during July and August 2024. A comprehensive independent review by the International Crimes Research Foundation (ICRF) has identified substantive factual inaccuracies, methodological shortcomings, omissions of essential evidence, and indications of imbalance within the OHCHR report. During the event, the ICRF’s documented analysis will be presented to ensure that the international community has access to a complete and rigorously verified understanding of the events in question.
A coffee reception featuring traditional Bangladeshi refreshments will be offered from 2:30 p.m.
