The Center for Reproductive Rights will launch a new report examining the legal landscape on abortion across Europe. Amnesty International will be present to comment about abortion legislation and the situation in Switzerland.
Timed ahead of International Safe Abortion Day (28 September), Europe Abortion Laws 2025: Policies, Progress and Challenges provides a clear, data-driven overview of abortion law and policy in 49 European countries, including Switzerland, highlighting recent reforms, ongoing gaps and legislative trends that continue to shape access to abortion care across the region.
The launch event will bring together legal and human rights perspectives to discuss the findings and their implications, with a particular focus on regional trends and the Swiss context.
Why it matters:
The report highlights Europe’s overall progress on abortion law while underscoring the harmful barriers and regressive measures that continue to obstruct access to care, showing that stronger legal protections are still needed across the region.
Opportunities for media:
- Engage with the report authors and advocates during a live presentation and Q&A.
- Spokespeople will be on hand after the event for one-on-one interviews.
- Hear analysis on what the report’s findings mean for Switzerland in particular.
Embargo:
The report and press release will be available to journalists under embargo prior to publication. Details will be shared upon registration.
Photo opportunities in Geneva:
- From 26–28 September, flags with the messages “Reproductive rights are human rights” and “Les droits reproductifs sont des droits humains” will be displayed on the Mont-Blanc Bridge.
- On 28 September, the Jet d’Eau will be illuminated in green, the colour of the global abortion rights movement.
