Exactly one year ago, both houses of the Swiss parliament approved a motion mandating the Swiss government to organize a peace forum for Nagorno Karabakh, to facilitate the return of its displaced Armenian population. Today, as war with Iran again threatens to destabilize this crucial region, this mandate is more important than ever. At this event, human rights activists from Switzerland and abroad will explore how the Swiss Peace Initiative can contribute to a lasting peace in this crucial region. They will also announce a new initiative to hold SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s national oil company, accountable for funding atrocities against Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh. Four organizations will be represented: Christian Solidarity International (CSI), l’Association Suisse Arménie, the Armenian Legal Defense Front, and the Committee for the Defense of the Fundamental Rights of the People of Nagorno Karabakh, which was established by the parliament of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh to campaign for the right of return.
