Since the launch of A Bon Entendeur in 1976, inspired by the German-language program Kassensturz and the success of the genre in the USA and the Nordic countries, consumer journalism has established itself as a journalistic discipline in its own right. In French-speaking Switzerland, the magazines Bon à Savoir and FRC Mieux choisir, as well as the RTS La Première program On en parle, have joined ABE. Faced with the complexity of our society, journalists specializing in consumer affairs and services investigate, test and tackle issues that concern the public. Whether it’s finance, insurance, telephony, food or health, our service journalists help you make choices that have a tangible impact on your daily life. Like Robins des Bois, they denounce injustices and scams. Journalism with immediate impact, but at a high price.
A few days before World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, the Geneva Press Club and CFJM take a look at the subject. What financial and legal means of investigation are available? How do companies react? What influence does it have? How is this type of journalism trained? How can we ensure its credibility? What kind of business model is possible without dependence on advertising? Is consumer journalism finally the future of the press for a public inundated with anxiety-inducing news? Find out from the heads of the leading consumer magazines and programs in French-speaking Switzerland.
Round-table discussion followed by an aperitif.
