In light of the recent protests in Iran and the reports of thousands of arrests and numerous deaths in custody, this timely hearing will also provide the historical context for the current conduct of the authorities. At least ten people were killed under torture in custody in Iran in the month of January 2018. Many more are at risk of a similar fate. Many top judicial officials today are the same people who were responsible for the 1988 massacre.
